******DISCLAIMER: The following journal is just to share my own opinion, not looking to offend anybody or making fun of what people likes. If you take it personal......wow, seriously, you need some help********As you ALL know by now, the "most awaited" Play Station 4 is coming, if you still didn't know, you can check Youtube. Yep, Sony looks so proud with it, probably many die hard Play Station fans screamed, other probably cried. Me? Well.......sorry Sony, but not all the people have orgasms with this stuff.
You know, the world of video games is really evolving, I can tell, after all I am an old school gamer, and many people from my generation probably share the same thoughts. But what do I mean with "evolving" nowadays, Better graphics? High Definition? Better sound effects? Better Music? Better ways to play online and connect the entire world?..............NO. Let me tell you why:
Atari in 1977 was simply the whole monopoly in home videogames, if you had an idea for a videogame, no matter how shitty was, Atari bought them all, after all, they had no match. But that wasn't until NES came out in 1985 (discontinued in 1993, 40 million consoles sold) , with better graphics, colors and sound and a big library of videogames with fresh concepts such as the platforms (and better quality, not all of them, but still). Now we got the SNES in 1990 (Discontinued in 1999, 50 million consoles sold), probably one of the most famous consoles in history, and a whole new experience: Better graphics and better sound. Yeah, by that time we all got dazzled very easy

, but even I think it is a great console nowadays. Looks like graphics was all in that time, but we needed something new (let's not talk about Virtual Boy, you ALL know why). So then, we got Nintendo 64 in 1996 (Discontinued in 2003, and a dissapointment in sells compared to its predecessors), we got the pass to the 3D world, but with a little problem, we still have cartridges, and why is it a problem? Because Sony Play Station already made it's debut in 1994 (japan, 1995 in America.....and discontinued in 2005) and with a new trick: CDs!! I know, CDs take much more to load and you can't save progress if it wasn't thanks to a Memory Card......but now you had even better graphic capacity, videos incorporated and better sound. Play Station came to stay, and with a great success in sells (no kidding, it sold over 100 million consoles worldwide, while Nintendo 64 only around 32 million).
Now, playing games in a polygonal size was simply new to us, revolutionary and we got used to it, but now we need something more realistic. So we got the Nintendo GameCube in 2001 (Discontinued in 2008), so yeah! We now have BETTER GRAPHICS and better sound in a capacity of a CD........Uuuhh, mini CD, so now we can't copy the discs or modify the consoles like the Play Station, DAMN IT! Well, not 100% what we wanted, but..........WHAT'S THIS? Play Station 2 already came out in 2000 (discontinued just recently at the ending of 2012), and...................OMFG!! We have a new challenger?!! Yeah! The Microsoft Xbox made its appearance in 2001 (discontinued in 2008).
Well, the console war is tough now, but I'm afraid we have a winner: Play Station 2, with over 153 million consoles sold worldwide and probably one of the most sold consoles in history (ah ha ha!, yeah, that's below the DS, with 154 millions), unfortunately GameCube only made 22 million (even lower than its predecessors), and Xbox around 24 million sold. One thing shared by all this new consoles? well, still using CDs, so now we don't have to worry about graphic and sound

Hmm, this looks good, but what do we need now? Maybe more High Definition? Why not? We got the Wii in 2006 (still on market and with 98 million consoles sold by far), the Play Station 3 in 2006 (still on market and with 70 million consoles sold by far, lower than its predecessors) and the Xbox 360 in 2005 (still on market and with 76 million consoles sold). Hmmm, looks like Nintendo finally got the top sales again, and now here's where this chit chat takes more sense:
Nintendo really worked on its control system, now we have more sensible controls that makes all the actions we need with some specific moves, and of course, according to them, they wanted to focus in a more wide audience, not just the teenagers and young adults. So now you have a new controlling system and you can also work out with the Wii fit (to be honest, I never used it)

What did Play Station 3 and Xbox 360 did? Wireless controls and better graphics......yay

In the beginning they tried to do the same control system as the Wii, but, well.......they needed to work more in them.
SO yeah, we now have the Wii U, but I'll stop right here with console history...........Yeah, I know what are you thinking, What happened to SEGA? I am a big fan of Sega games, but even I know Sega made a lot of DUMB decisions by releasing some new consoles and game system ahead to its time, not to mention all the expensive propaganda and attacking other consoles (remember? Sega does what Nintendon't). The most popular, Sega Genesis, really was my favorite, low graphics and sound than SNES, but with BLAST PROCESSING!! Wow

Then, trying to keep it alive with the Sega CD and 32X..............DUMB! Sega Saturn? wasn't ready to its time.............and they had its chance to redeem themselves with the Dreamcast, but unfortunately it was too late for them, bankruptcy and losing against Play Station 2, made Sega to just focus in software.
It was a shame, in an age of looking something new in videogames, Dreamcast got it with the new Online gaming system and navigate through Internet in your console.........something that every console has nowadays. To me, Dreamcast was a good console, with good graphics that could stand against Play Station 2, but well..........like I said, it was too late for them

OK, OK, back to business...........I personally prefer Nintendo because they are trying to give something new, not just graphics...........and that's why I don't have tears of joy for the Play Station 4, it is true, graphics are kinda more realistic, and the new online gaming system sounds promising, but...............that's it? It's not a big difference with the PS 3 in my opinion and controlling looks the same. Instead of another console, why not working a little more with the current one?
There's something I still don't understand, people nowadays really are impressed by the graphics, or it's just that impulse to have the LATEST stuff. You can tell when iPhone 5 came out. People I know just got the iPhone 4 like 2 weeks and threw it out when the 5 appeared.

And it makes me think, how many finally got the PS3 this year, but are now in a panic to replace it because the new one is the latest? Well, I know, this is business, if you have a product that makes money to you, then you sell it.

Look, I am not trying to give more propaganda to Nintendo or saying that Pay Station sucks, but in my opinion (just my opinion), graphics aren't all that. I play videogames for fun, I even play the oldies and I never get bored of them. I played new ones and I like them, but nothing out of this world. And Play Station 4...............well, just another console with good graphics, that's all. And let's see when Xbox 720 comes out.

I really hope in the future, Nintendo or any other company gives us something fresh, something new and revolutionary, just like the old times, but.......I guess there 's a long wait for it

Once again, just sharing my thoughts and opinion...............and a little Videogame history

If people who are waiting for the PS 4 is now exited, well.........hope you get it soon and have fun

But here is something to all the people who loves to bash the old ones because they are not like Call of Duty or some other great ones: A videogame is about having fun and a good concept that gets your attention, not just graphics or getting the latest stuff.

You can see where I'm getting at...
Perhaps you know that for years Nintendo has been designing their products with a philosophy of "dok so" in mind. Which means, "creating something unique."
However ... this is supposed to be a GAMES console, not an advertisement for animation studios. Yes, those videos look FABULOUS ... but what can I do on this obscenely expensive new platform that I can not already do on existing platforms? What kinds of new or enhanced game play does it allow?
So far, it looks like every game and demo showed off is possible on PS3 360 and Wii-U, just with lower polygon counts, lower rez textures, and less advanced lighting and particle effects. 3D sculpting and puppet shows? ... perfectly possible with Wii-Motion+ and Kinect. Tons and tons of orbs rendered with realistic physics? I seem to recall a Mario 128 demo way back before the launch of the Gamecube that was sort of like that. So their new chips can render many times that many objects now. That's just mathematical inevitability when increasing computing power. Who is actually impressed by that? Does anyone really care?
Some of their showcase games are already coming to the other consoles anyway, looking nearly as good, and surely playing identically in all relevant ways. Watch Dogs, for example.
I think the best graphics of the current generation look FABULOUS. Seriously ... having the face of the bad guy in a FPS or Fantasy Action game look a little more realistic for the 1/8 second I see it before they are cut down really does not make the game any more fun to play. It is exiting for the first 5 minutes, until you get used to it. Then it just feels "Normal".
I'm not impressed. Show me a game that looks so fun to play that I would find it worth the cost of purchasing the hardware just to play it, and I'll start to care. All I see so far is fantastic advertisements for tallented ILM-like movie effects studios doing the cut scenes for the games.
I am supposed to be seeing GAMES. Show me why this new hardware is NECESSARY to play exiting new games, and I'll maybe care. This looks about as important as buying a $1,000 graphics card for my PC so my games can run at 120fps at maximum graphics settings instead of 60fps at "High". That makes the game twice as fun to play, right??? ...
... RIGHT?????? ...
Personally, what i realy wish for (which will NOT be implemented from what little ive read) is backwards compatibility with Ps3 disc games. Thats a bummer for me big time! Because there are STILL Ps3 games i want to play BADLY...like Dishonored, and God of War Ascension. Plus i want to finish Far Cry 3, replay Darkiders 2 two more times and bite Skyrim for the first time...after i "finish" Oblivion (ill never finish that
But, regardless, ill do what i did with the Ps3, i waited for a while and when a really good game catches my eye, i might get it. But i still dream with the ability to play my Ps3 games in it...if it had a function to let me copy and paste the saves from Ps3 to Ps4, id be drooling all over the floor! But i guess it just more happy cocaine wishes of mine.
Now, if they instead released Ps3 titles through PSN and include some older Ps2 and Ps1 titles as well...then maybe i could be bought, would be a hassle though to get all those games again, and if i have to pay then id be in trouble :S
But still...im certain that if i can free up my Ps3 memory, and either stash it somewhere or put in some cloud memory storage and keep playing, mine could last about...oh i dont know...another 5 years maybe? Maybe longer? Yeah, i can do that :3
